Yakhnich Yamaha’s Sam Lowes dominated the World Supersport qualifying practice session for the second time today. In a repeat performance from the opening free practice this morning, the Lincolnshire rider was propelled to the provisional pole spot after a 2’00.542, with just over ten minutes of track time remaining.

Lowes continued to improve and before the chequered flag came out clocked a time that was two minutes flat and successfully held off a last lap dash from local lad and reigning champ, MAHI Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu. The Turkish rider was languishing just outside the top ten, but managed to up his race pace to ride a 2’00.678, but he was still six tenths of a second slower than his English rival.

Kawasaki Intermoto rider Florian Marino saved his best lap till last and in the dying seconds of the session lapped a 2’00.798 that placed him directly at the sharp end and on a provisional front row position. Team Lorini’s Roberto Tamburini and Marino’s team-mate David Salom rounded off the top five quickest times.

DMC Lorenzini rider Kev Coghlan was as high as eighth in the Supersport timesheets, but could not go quicker than Pata Honda’s Michael Van der Mark. In the end only one one-hundredths of a second separate the pair, with the Dutch rider getting the better of the Scot. Coghlan’s best time of 2’01.156 meant he finished the qualifying practice session in ninth.

Rivamoto’s Jack Kennedy managed to stay on his bike this afternoon to end the day sixteenth quickest with a 2’01.566. ParkinGO MV’s Christian Iddon was only one tenth of a second faster than fellow Englishman, PTR Honda’s Danny Webb, with both riders ending the day eighteenth and nineteenth respectively.
