Two-time World Superbike Champion James Toseland has announced that he and singer Katie Melua are now engaged.

The-ex racer, who was forced into retirement before the end of last season after complications with a broken wrist, popped the question to Miss Melua - famous for songs including 'Nine Million Bicycles' - and had to be helped up when she said agreed.

He wrote on his Facebook page: "Hey everyone, I’ve got some happy news to share with you, I asked Katie to marry me and she said Yes! As you can imagine, I am a very happy man right now."

The 'Closest Thing To Crazy' singer (27) and Toseland, 31, were first set up by Miss Melua's keyboard player Jim Watson last year after he spotted the racing star in the audience of her concert at Sheffield City Hall.
