Jerez WorldSBK in jeopardy as whole of Italy placed in quarantine

Italian authorities have put the entire country in lockdown in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus which puts the Jerez WorldSBK round in jeopardy.

Strict travel restriction are being put in place for the country which means riders, team members and Dorna staff will find it difficult to move out of Italy to Spain.

Around 60 million people will now effectively be placed under quarantine by the strict measures which had already been introduced in northern and some central areas over the weekend.

Italy’s prime minister Giuseppe Conte will sign a new decree and the nationwide measures will be introduced in the morning and he has urged Italians to ‘stay at home’.

"We all must give something up for the good of Italy. We have to do it now, and we'll only be able if we all collaborate and adapt to these more stringent measures," he said.

"This is why I decided to adopt even more strong and severe measures to contain the advance and protect the health of all citizens."

The government has said only those with a valid work or family reason that cannot be postponed will be permitted to travel.

Passengers departing on flights, except temporary visitors, will have to justify themselves, as will all those arriving by plane.
