Jerez WSBK: Davies ends year with 'toughest weekend...'

GoldBet BMW’s Chaz Davies' season with his team is now over and the Welshman finished the World Superbike championship fifth overall in the standings, but he failed to make it onto the podium in the final round at Jerez, crossing the finishing line in seventh and fifth respectively.

But the rider wanted to end his year on a high, but instead found the weekend ‘tough’ and felt it was a ‘shame’ that he experienced grip issues in the last two races, but overall in happy with how the year has panned out. The Powys based resident notched up multiple podiums and three race wins, and on the whole it has been a ‘good’ year.

The Welshman is looking for a ride for next year, and wants to stay with a factory outfit, but would have liked to have ended the year on a high, with a podium, but unfortunately that did not happen this weekend.

“I was faster than in race one in hotter temperatures so I was closer to the top guys but unfortunately not close enough. It was probably one of the toughest weekends of the season which is a shame to end on. Looking back on the season I have to say that on the whole I am happy,” said Davies.

“Thanks to BMW for giving me the opportunity to win in World Superbikes more than once. I collected three victories this year and challenged at the front and got multiple podiums. So again thank you to BMW and the team, it was a good year.”
