Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies had to sacrifice his pace over one lap in order to have a bike he can race with in both of tomorrow’s Jerez World Superbike outings but still managed to find enough speed for a second-row start.
Davies started both Sepang races from the same spot and pulled off a win and a podium, so the Welshman is confident he will be able to run with the Kawasakis in Spain.
“I feel like to achieve a good race pace we need to sacrifice pace on the flying lap, something that was quite clear today. I did a run of about 16 laps earlier today and the bike performed fairly well, though I think there’s still room for improvement,” said Davies.
“On the Q tyre on the other hand, I don’t think I made any real mistakes but unfortunately I wasn’t able to do any more in terms of lap time. It would have been nice to have been a little further forward but, having said that, we were sixth on the grid in Malaysia and managed to put it all together, so I’m feeling optimistic and am looking forward to the races.”
