Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes stormed to the top of the World Superbike free practice timesheets at Jerez this afternoon and is on lap record pace but he was kept honest by Ducati’s Chaz Davies while Britain’s Alex Lowes bagged third with his last lap as just over half a second covered the top ten.
Sykes put in a 1’41.739 right at the start of the session to set the quickest time of the day so far but Davies was only 0.038s behind the Huddersfield rider but was able to string together four laps in the 1’41s compared to Sykes’ single.
Pata Yamaha’s Lowes set his fastest lap with his last effort and jumped into third place, displacing Honda’s Michael Van Der Mark with this morning’s fastest man Xavi Fores in fifth.
