Pata Honda’s Michael Van Der Mark dominated the World Supersport qualifying session at Jerez, and cemented his place on the number one spot on the starting grid with a 1’44.293.
The Dutchman was a tenth off lap record place, but was 0.2 seconds quicker than his team-mate, Lorenzo Zanetti who will start from second place on the front row. Initially it was San Carlo’s Kenan Sofuoglu who bagged the second spot on the starting grid – but was penalised because his team used an extra engine, and will start from pit lane.
With the Turkish rider out of the mix it meant that the Kawasaki Intermoto duo of Florian Marino and former MCE British Superbike contender PJ Jacobsen will start from third and fourth on the grid respectively.
But there was absolutely nothing separating Jacobsen from fifth place starter, Core PTR’s Ratthapark Wilairot, as both lapped a 1’44.745. CIA Insurance Honda’s Jack Kennedy rounds off the second row, after a gutsy 1’44.788, with fellow Celt, DMC Panavto-Yamaha Kev Coghlan competing the top ten, after a 1’45.146.
