Pata Yamaha’s Alex Lowes says he needs to get stuck in to the last four rounds of the championship and could be in a position to do that after finshing the first day of World Superbike free practice at Jerez in third.
The Derby rider rocketed up to the sharp end with his final lap on a new tyre but also showed pace through the middle of the second session, so could spring a surprise in both of tomorrow’s races.
“It was a good last lap, I felt good on the bike, we did a longer run in the middle of the session and then put in a new tyre at the end. We need to keep working as it would be nice to be racing in this position, not just doing it for one lap,” said Lowes, speaking at the track.
“We will see what we can do tomorrow. I feel the best I have felt for quite a few races, the bike is working good so there is no reason why we can’t be up there.
“My wrist and ankle are a lot better, so it was nice to feel somewhere near fit on the bike. We need to have four good final races and get stuck in a bit.”
