Jonathan Rea suffered one of his most frustrating weekends after struggling for grip around the Balaton Park Circuit.
The Hungarian World Superbike Round was a difficult weekend for Jonathan Rea, as he struggled with grip issues throughout the weekend at the Balaton Park Circuit.
Rea had a promising Superpole session as he qualified in tenth place, but his races did not match his one-lap pace.
In Race One, the six-time World Superbike Champion crashed twice and ultimately did not finish the race. Before finishing in ninth and twelfth in the two races on Sunday, collecting five points across the three races.
"This morning was wet, I didn’t have a really good feeling with the bike," Rea said.
"Just a lack of rear traction, and it was a little bit the same in the Superpole Race. We started with a drying line, and when there were risks to be taken, I was ready to take those risks.
"But Vierge came underneath me at Turn Four and picked me up into the wet stuff. I lost so much track position, and when I was coming back, Bulega was in front, and he was slowing everyone down in the group with intermediate tyres. I just couldn’t get past him, and it was frustrating.
"In the end, I got up to P9, which got us a third-row grid start. Unfortunately, in the long Race 2, I struggled from the get-go with grip. I got a decent start and inside the top 6 in the first corner, but without grip, I was a sitting duck.
"I was Vulnerable in the passing areas because I wasn’t getting off the corners well. I don’t feel like I was riding very well, and to make it worse, I didn’t have a great feeling with my bike today because we didn’t quite nail the setup, and I didn’t feel comfortable.
"It was one of the most frustrating weekends, to be honest!"
