Jonathan Rea will not participate in Race Two at the Spanish World Superbike Round after being declared unfit.
After crashing in the Superpole Race at the Spanish World Superbike Round, Jonathan Rea has been declared unfit for the final race of the weekend at the season finale.
The six-time World Superbike Champion's full-time racing career was set to come to an end after Race Two at Jerez, but with the news of his injuries, his career has come to an end one race earlier than expected.
Rea has been diagnosed with a right knee sprain and contusion following a collision with Remy Gardner at Turn Three on the opening lap of the 10-lap Superpole Race.
After announcing his retirement from full-time racing ahead of the French World Superbike Round, Rea has been finding form on his Pata Maxus Yamaha R1. The 38-year-old has featured inside the top ten in six of the last 11 races since he made his announcement.
But the final round of his World Superbike career was a disaster for Rea as he crashed on his own in Race One, and then ended his time in the paddock as a full-time rider with another crash in the Superpole Race.
These unwanted injuries have also ruined his chances of securing a podium in his final World Superbike season, as his last rostrum visit came in the Superpole Race at Donington Park in 2024.
It is currently unknown what Rea plans on doing after announcing his retirement from full-time racing, but it has been reported that he is interested in racing in the Endurance World Championship.
