Jonathan Rea could be back in action this weekend after ten weeks away from racing after fracturing several metatarsal bones.
The start of the 2025 World Superbike Championship has been a difficult year for Jonathan Rea. After three rounds of the current season, Rea has not started a race due to injury.
The six-time World Champion crashed during the Phillip Island World Superbike Test. His crash caused him to fracture several metatarsal bones in his left foot. The injuries were caused by his R1 landing on his foot after it flipped through the gravel.
So far, Rea has missed the Australian, Portuguese and Dutch Rounds of the 2025 season, but he will reportedly attempt to return this weekend. This weekend is the Italian World Superbike Round at the Cremona Circuit.
According to Speedweek.com, Pata Maxus Yamaha Team Boss Paul Denning stated: "Jonathan Rea will travel to Italy with the intention of racing. Let's keep our fingers crossed, it should be okay."
Despite being given the go-ahead by his doctors in Northern Ireland, Rea will still have to get the green light from the World Superbike Medical Directors at the Italian circuit on Thursday.
Rea's comeback could occur three weeks after his current teammate Andrea Locatelli claimed his maiden Superbike win at the Dutch World Superbike Round.
