WSBK | JONES LOOKING FOR MAIDEN WIN IN VALENCIA

PARKALGAR HONDA’S Craig Jones is determined to stake his claim to the World Supersport title this weekend at the third round of the series in Valencia Spain, with a race victory being his clear target.

Currently lying sixth in the standings, Jones benefited from a test at the 4005m circuit in mid-March, leading the time sheets for much of the final day and ending up third, only a tenth of a second off the quickest lap. On race tyres he is confident in the set-up and performance of his Parkalgar Honda and is eager to score his first World Supersport race victory to add to his numerous podium finishes.

Parkalgar Honda’s Praia is delighted to be returning to Europe after two flyaway races at Qatar and Australia. His aim is to fight for points within the top 15 and at the recent test he recorded the 13th quickest lap time as he continues to learn quickly.

Paulo Pinheiro, the boss of the in-construction Parkalgar circuit and complex in Portugal, will be attending the race to give his riders direct support and urge them to greater heights. Near Portimao, the futuristic circuit will host the final round of the World Supersport Championship on November 2nd 2008.

Practice and qualification on Friday and Saturday will be followed by the race on Sunday, April 6th, at 1320 CET. It can be viewed live on www.worldsbk.com.

Parkalgar Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “The opening two rounds of the Championship were always going to be difficult for us as we had no previous data for the circuits but now we are back in Europe on familiar tracks and ready to go for the race wins.

“Craig and Miguel both enjoyed a strong test at Valencia three weeks ago and if they can continue that sort of form, then they will be racing where the team expects. We want Craig to score his maiden victory, it is long overdue, and Miguel should be in the points and climbing the results sheet as his experience grows.

“The whole Parkalgar Honda team is focussed on this race weekend like no other. We need to make our claim to Championship honours and this is a critical event for us all.”
