Stiggy Honda's Leon Haslam has closed the gap on poleman Michel Fabrizio to less than half a second in this morning's second qualifying session, held in mixed conditions at Kyalami, and sits in second place going into Superpole.
Haslam is the first of three Brits on the provisional front row with Ten Kate's Jonathan Rea in third and Yamaha's Tom Sykes in fourth. Sykes was one of only handful of riders to improve their time from yesterday.
The track was empty for the first half of the hour-long session as spits of rain fell but Ryuichi Kiyonari was the first man out and immediately bettered his time from the first qualifying session.
Ben Spies, Yukio Kagayama and Sheridan Morais also went quicker than yesterday, with the Kawasaki rider jumping to seventh with a 1'38.767 lap, just over half a second slower than Fabrizio's quickest from yesterday.
