KYALAMI WSS: EUGENE LAVERTY'S KYALAMI DIARY - DAY ONE

Today went really well.  I enjoyed a superb brew with my omelette at breakfast which I did not expect out here so far away from home.  The secret, we believe, lay in the teapot.  Initial discussions took place over breakfast to get a teapot in Parkalgar Honda livery for the next European race in Misano.

Practice didn’t start until 13.30 so I was in no rush to leave the hotel this morning.  When we were finally let loose around the circuit things came rather easily which made a nice change. Normally we have to work hard over the weekend to catch up to the guys out front but I finished both practices in P2.

It's great to see my brother Michael riding out here in place of the injured Robbin Harms.  He took it steady today getting used to a supersport bike again but tomorrow I reckon he'll be on the first three rows.  The bike isn't anywhere near the level of mine but I still reckon Michael could manage a top 8 finish in Sunday which would be no mean feat, he's a hell of a rider and shouldn't be having to sit on the sidelines.

The organisers screwed up somewhat with the timetable for this round.  Friday practice was due to finish at 17.30 but when we arrived on Tuesday we watched the sunset at 17.15!  They could only move it forward 25 minutes at such short notice but nevertheless it stopped us having to fit headlights.

I’m going to lie back and watch an episode of Heroes before bed, much earlier start in the morning.  There’s normally only one 7.30 in my day.

Ciao ciao ciao ciao... ciao.
