Laguna WSBK: Guintoli not giving up on title hopes

Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli believes the World Superbike championship is still within his reach, after coming away from the weekend with two second place finishes at Laguna Seca.

The rider is 44 points behind Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes in the standings, but the Frenchman is not giving up on his title ambitions as he feels he has a strong bike and crew. But even after two solid performances out on the Californian track he still feels it was not good enough – and only a win will suffice.

“It is not all lost and we are looking to get some points, but we are looking really strong. Last year we got stuffed with the red flags, so I thought it was my chance to do well, and it was my destiny,” said Guintoli, at the track.

“But I had a bad re-start and I was hanging on behind Tom. I tried everything but I was never in a real position to attack him. I have had two strong results but it is not enough, and I have to come back stronger.”
