Laguna WSBK: ‘Strange’ crash ruled Davies out of race two

Ducati’s Chaz Davies had a promising start at the beginning of the World Superbike weekend at Laguna Seca, and was at the sharp end throughout the free practice sessions. He was in contention for a possible podium finish, but a big crash at the Corkscrew in race one put an end to all of that.

Davies was disoriented after the crash, but fortunately didn’t break anything. Even though he felt fine in himself the medical team at the track wouldn’t let him back on to his Ducati to take part in the second race of the day, as a precaution.

The Welshman has come away from the Californian circuit very ‘disappointed’ after missing out on a possible major points haul, but in the end came away with nothing.

“It was a strange crash as I didn’t feel like I was doing anything different to normal. The rear just came around on me and I fell awkwardly on my head. It seems as if the doctors made a decision based on the fact that I was dizzy and disorientated,” said Davies.

“A huge disappointment because I feel ok and wanted to race of course. Anyway it’s ultimately the doctor’s decision but a really disappointing end to what started out as such a positive weekend.”
