Lausitz WorldSBK: Davies’ Ducati double win delight in Deutschland

Aruba Ducati’s Chaz Davies has taken the double WorldSBK win at the Lausitsring this afternoon, passing reigning world champion Jonathan Rea at half distance and then holding a one-second lead until Rea knocked back his pace to take 20 points and an extended series lead.

Rea sliced his way through the pack from row three, climbing to third on lap one, second on lap two before passing Marco Melandri at turn ten for the lead on lap five. Davies followed him through but got stuck behind Xavi Fores for a bit too long.

The Welshman set two new laps records as he set about reeling in Rea, going past Melandri through the fast turn nine on lap eight before finding a space under Rea at turn four. Davies then opened an immediate gap and managed the race to the line.

Tom Sykes drops to 70 points behind Rea in the title chase after he again got tangled up in the pack and took way too much time to get past the likes of Fores, Lorenzo Savadori and Leon Camier.

The Kawasaki finally found a way past Savadori with eight laps left, and he was quickly followed by Camier and the Pata Yamaha of Alex Lowes. Camier didn’t quite have the pace to stay with Sykes so was again in a scrap with Lowes. But this time, Lowes was able to find a way past the Kent man to take fifth place with Camier in sixth.
