Lausitz WSBK: Davies settled for points when rival Sykes crashed

Chaz Davies opted for as many points as he could get in today’s rain-hit World Superbike race at the Lausitzring as he still has eyes on at least finishing runner-up in the championship.

The Welshman has already all but written-off his chances of wrestling the crown away from Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea, but the aruba.it Racing rider knows second is still very much on table.

After dominating yesterday’s race as he took the win by more than 10 seconds, Davies chose to play safe in today’s deluge after he watched Sykes crash out from second position on the opening lap.

“When Tom crashed I could see and feel that I didn’t have a lot of grip out there and I really wanted to finish that race, I didn’t want to chuck it down the road, he said.

“I saw Tom’s crash and I’m not out of that fight for second. Obviously winning the championship is a bit of a stretch now but at least to catch up to Tom I’m not out of that fight.

“I decided to try and gather as many points as possible within reason of not chucking it on the floor and that’s what we did.”
