Ioda Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori benefitted from having a flying Tom Sykes as a marker to set the fastest time of the Lausitzring World Superbike weekend so far, clocking a 1’37.449 to top the second session just after the Kawasaki man had crossed the line.
Sykes found some pace with changes made over lunch and set the quickest time of the day so far with a 1’37.557 but Italian Savadori was right on his back wheel to claim top spot and Sykes was further demoted by local man Markus Reiterberger who jumped into second with his final lap of 1’37.483 to finish just 0.034s off the pace.
Chaz Davies was another rider whose interval tinkering ended in some strides forward. The Aruba Ducati rider was in the doldrums this morning but found three quarters of a second to end the day in fourth place, one ahead of Nicky Hayden who was top of the session with just ten minutes left to run.
Sylvain Guintoli took over as the leading Pata Yamaha man, bagging sixth place on a 1’37.753 while Jordi Torres - fastest this morning - could only find a tenth in the second session so slips back to seventh, one ahead of Alex Lowes who didn’t make much headway from his time earlier in the day after losing the front at turn six.
Leon Camier again showed speed in the opening part of the lap but is being let down by the MV Agusta’s lack of top speed. The Kent rider finished in ninth, one ahead of Michael Van Der Mark. Reigning champion Jonathan Rea found eight-tenths between session but was still down in 11th place with Alex De Angelis and Davide Giugliano behind him.
It was disaster for Josh Brookes as a problem with the Milwaukee BMW caused a crash at turn 12 which the Australian walked away from but it brought out the reg flags. His crew had nothing like enough time to unbend the S1000RR, so Brookes spend most of the session in his garage.
