Kenan Sofuoglu picked up where he left off almost three months ago as he coasted to another pole for tomorrow’s World Supersport race at the Lausitzring.
The Puccetti Kawasaki rider never looked under any serious pressure as he took the top spot with a best lap of 1’40.778 around the German track, which he set early on in the session.
With the track just about completely dry after this morning’s wet weather, the championship leader seemed to have it all his own way as no-one was in a position to mount a serious challenge.
Ayrton Badovini on the Team Lorini Honda, Federico Caricasulo on the Bardahl Evan Bros Honda and Kallio Racing’s Niki Tuuli all briefly crept to the top of the timesheets in the opening few minutes, but all were deposed as Sofuoglu came out and emerged quickest.
He clocked his time of 1’40.778 just as everyone decided to pit for new tyres. As the pack re-joined the track, Tuuli looked like he was the man on a mission to make a serious play for pole as he made a serious push.
However, he was unable to touch Sofuoglu’s earlier time, and had to settle for second position some 0.559s adrift of the Turkish rider.
Britain’s Gino Rea grabbed third aboard his GRT Racing Team MV Agusta, knocking Christoffer Bergman down to fourth.
Jules Cluzel’s tough season continued to get worse as the MV Agusta pilot was only able to qualify in sixth spot, behind the Kawasaki of Randy Krummenacher.
Luke Stapleford was the next best Brit, ending the session in ninth spot on his Profile Racing Triumph while the CIA Landlord Insurance Honda of Kyle Smith will line up 12th.
