Eugene Laverty will get his first run out on a full factory M1000RR when he stands-in for the injured Tom Sykes at this weekend’s Jerez WorldSBK round.
Laverty has been sidelined since his RC Squadra team fizzled out due to funding problems but the Irishman will be back on track in Spain tomorrow.
“First of all I’d like to wish Tom well in his recovery. I’m very excited to get back racing after almost three months on the sidelines," Laverty told bikesportnews.com.
"BMW have made big strides forward with the M 1000 RR lately and I’m keen to see where we’re at. I’ve really missed that feeling of being on the grid so I can’t wait to get stuck in on Saturday.”
Sykes suffered a hefty concussion in last Sunday’s race in Barcelona and spent a couple of days in hospital. He will now fully focus on his recovery in order to be ready for the following round at Portimao.
