Pata Yamaha’s Alex Lowes is facing a race against time in order to be fit enough to ride at the upcoming two-day World Superbike test at Jerez which starts on January 26.
The former British Superbike Champion crashed at the Spanish track last time out, damaging his shoulder in a big highside but Lowes has been undertaking physio sessions and is hoping to be fit enough to join team-mate Sylvain Guintoli.
“I am working as hard as I can to be ready for Phillip Island but I will have to see about whether or not I can ride at the tests at the end of this month,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com this lunchtime.
“I know 100 per cent I won’t be fully on the pace if I do so I need to make a decision about whether I will be able to learn anything about the new parts we have before heading out to Australia.
“It’s going to take a lot of patience and I think the first two rounds might be damage limitation but I have learned a lot about that over the last two years. Mentally, I am ready for the season to start and I am trying as hard as I can to be fit but I may just have to go into it slowly.”
