Yacknich Yamaha's Sam Lowes needs only two points from this weekend's World Supersport round at Magny-Cours to clinch his first world title with a race in hand.
The Derby-based rider is 49 ahead of nearest rival Kenan Sofuoglu who has a mountain to climb with some added luck if he is to make it four Supersport titles as he needs to win both the remaining races and for Lowes to score virtually no points at all.
"I need to finish 14th or for Kenan not to win, and that will be the world title for me and that's pretty exciting. I'm not going to change my gameplan much if the weather is dry but I will be more cautious if it is wet," said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com this lunchtime.
"I've got to ride with my head a bit in the rain but other than that it is business as usual. It's been a great year so far and it would be great to get it out of the way in France and enjoy the final round at Jerez in style."
