Voltcom Suzuki’s Alex Lowes will hit the ground running at Assen’s World Superbike round this weekend as it will be the first track in his 2014 campaign that he has some knowledge of.
The reigning British Superbike Champion is still getting to grips with the GSX-R1000’s electronics package but believes that knowing where he is going on Friday - and with substantially-healed leg - will make life easier.
“The leg is good now, finally. I ran on it for the first time on Friday. I’m going to a track that I know, the first one this season. I just need a solid weekend and to enjoy it,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Brands Hatch.
“The danger is that I don’t know what to ask for to get the most out of the electronics. I don’t enjoy the electronics side of things so much. I just get on the bike and ride it – now I’m thinking about what I need to do.
“In Aragon I struggled with engine braking strategy – it wasn’t as consistent as I wanted, but that was probably down to my feedback, because I didn’t really know what I was on about. But I do now.
“I’m going to Assen, to a track where I know how the bike should feel and I can relate how the bike should feel going into the corners to my crew. I had never seen Aragon before and I didn’t know how I should feel going into the hairpin or corners.
“Now I am going to ride the bike like I did in BSB and do my best and enjoy it and if I’m not very good I will just ride the bike a bit faster.”
