WorldSBK Magny-Cours: Sykes, Davies in HRC frame amid 'no decision' denials

Honda WorldSBK team boss Leon Camier is taking to difficult-question swervery like a champion as he denies that any decisions have been made about the 2022 line-up.

Strong rumours at Magny-Cours put works BMW reject Tom Sykes and Chaz Davies in the frame for next year but Camier was having none of it.

“At the minute, we’re looking at all options for sure but no decisions have been made. We are trying to take it one step at a time, trying to improve the bike we have right here, trying to get some results and also looking for the future and trying to understand the best options,” said Camier, speaking at the track.

“As I said, at the minute there are no decisions, just options. To be honest, it’s something we have discussed, whether it’s better to look at older riders with more experience or better to look at some younger riders and go from there. We’re considering everything but until the decision has been made, we don’t really know the direction we’ll go in.”

Sykes is effusive about the chance to ride for HRC while Davies, as usual, is more circumspect. “Of course the project would be of big interest. Everybody knows HRC as a brand very well, and it is a project with a lot of potential, and I think that my experience and speed would work well there,” said the Yorkshireman.

Davies, who has been big mates with Camier since their Superteen days, added: “No further on with regards to 2022, obviously I’ve got my ears open for potential opportunities but I’m not going to go rushing into anything. I’m not sure on the rumours, there’s rumours and then there’s reality.

“To be honest I think Honda have their strategy in mind with who they’d like to put on the bike and I’m not sure I’m at the front of the queue. I’m not sure it’d be a realistic option but never say never.”
