Magny-Cours WSBK: Cluzel wins from Lowes and Linfoot

PTR Honda's Jules Cluzel has taken victory in today's World Supersport finale, fending off a late charge from team-mate Sam Lowes while Kenan Sofuoglu was once again penalised by race direction for nerfing Dan Linfoot out of third place on the last lap.

Linfoot had been battling with Lowes for second place for most of the race but Sofuoglu, who is already 2012 Champion, decided that he needed the final podium place and ran into the side of the Yorkshire toast rack which resulted in Linfoot crashing out.

Sofuoglu was immediately given a 25-second penalty by race direction which put him back behind Linfoot meaning the likeable Wetherby rider took back his first ever, and well-deserved World Supersport podium.

Cluzel was the class act of the field but MDS R-N Kawasaki's Linfoot took second place on lap three as Lowes had to make his way up from fourth. Linfoot set off in pursuit of Cluzel with Lowes not too far back. Lowes found some pace and passed the 24-year-old on lap nine but couldn't escape.

Sofuoglu, as he does, was able to lap two seconds faster than everyone as the laps clicked down and put a clean move on Linfoot with two laps to go, but ran wide through Adelaide. The next time around, he tried to make it through a space that wasn't there and Linfoot went down. The 25-second penalty, given Sofuoglu's antics all year, is very lenient and he should have been excluded.

Lowes, meanwhile, grabbed third in the title chase as rival Fabien Foret could only manage fifth place. Fellow Brit Martin Jessopp finished in 18th place.
