Massive demand forces Donington to switch WSBK pre-event venue

Unprecedented demand has forced Donington Park to switch its World Superbike pre-event extravaganza from the local village to inside the track itself.

The initial plan was for a parade and presentation to take place in Castle Donington village on May 22, but unprecedented spectator levels unfortunately means the event has had to be moved to an area with greater capacity.

Therefore a new event will take place at Donington Park on the same day, incorporating a meet and greet session with some of the leading names of the Superbike World Championship as well as entertainment and bike displays.

The new event will be based outside the Donington Collections museum, where there will be family activities and rider Q&As. World Superbike legend Carl Fogarty will still be in attendance, as will the other confirmed riders, including Alex Lowes and Sylvain Guintoli.

Donington Park Sporting Director Bob Adams commented: “While it’s regrettable that the parade into the village won’t now be able to take place, we are delighted at the amount of people who have expressed interest in the event, and are now planning to make it an even bigger preview for World Superbikes.

“It’ll be an afternoon of fun for all the family and a great way to kick start our preparations for the only UK round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship.”

The event will start at the same 1pm time on 22 May as originally scheduled. For more information on events at Donington Park, visit www.donington-park.co.uk.
