Former MotoGP and World Superbike star Marco Melandri has made himself available for the Pata Yamaha team if they need a replacement for Sylvain Guintoli at the Laguna Seca round.

The diminutive Italian, who said he turned down a substitute ride at this weekend’s Misano round, says that with some test time on the new R1, he could be ready to race in California.

“I didn't accept Yamaha offer for Misano only beccause after eight months without a pro ride I could not think to jump on the bike and be strong,” said Melandri.

“With 3-4 days of testing if yamaha needs me for Laguna Seca I’ll be happy to ride.”
