MICHAEL LAVERTY TO RACE WORLD SUPERSPORT AT KYALAMI

Michael Laverty will line up alongside brother Eugene in the World Supersport Championship at Kyalami this weekend when he stands in for Robbin Harms who broke his collarbone at Monza.

Taking a break from his AMA Superbike duties, Michael will swing a leg over a Supersport bike for the first time on the world stage since he rode for the Vitrans Honda team at Assen in a, I dunno, answers on a postcard.

"It's a great opportunity to see what we can do against Eugene," said Laverty, talking to bikesportnews.com this evening. "Robbin's team boss came and asked Simon [Buckmaster, Eugene's team boss] if he could recommend anyone for a ride this weekend, and he said me," said M-Lav, as that is how they will be known this weekend.
"It's a great compliment and I will go as hard as I can. I've not been to that track before, but then no-one else has apart from the Ten Kate guys so it should be a level field.

"I've had to borrow a set of Eugene's leathers for the weekend and I'm surprised I got into them as he's such a little fecker but they fit ok and I'm hoping that we can get a result for the Veidec Racing RES Software team."
When asked if he would help Eugene if the situation came up on the last lap, M-Lav said: "I think I will know if any of that would be necessary on Saturday, but if it comes to it then I have to prove myself on the world stage..."
