Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu barged his way to the World Supersport race win at Miller Motorsport Park this afternoon with two passing moves bordering on dangerous.
Parkalgar Honda's Eugene Laverty had displayed a masterclass in Supersport riding, keeping Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow at bay for the entire race after a lap-two tussle with the former British Superbike rider saw the Irishman come out on top.
Laverty then got his head down and lapped consistently fast enough to kepp Crutchlow and Kawasaki's Joan Lascorz behind him as Sofuoglu made his wway through the pack to make it a four-bike dice with five laps to go.
The Turk then sat Lascorz up on and the pair lost a few tenths on Laverty and Crutchlow, but he had reeled them back in, setting the fastest lap of the race in the process, before sitting Crutchlow up on the final lap and then almost causing Laverty to crash as he went past into the final corner.
The pair bashed fairings and the Irishman's feet came off the pegs as Sofuoglu went underneath him but he managed to keep his head to finish second with Crutchlow taking the last podium spot. Michael Laverty finished in 17th place and female debutant Melissa Paris crashed out.
