MILLER WSB: SPIES CRUISES TO THE DOUBLE

Sterilgarda Yamaha's Ben Spies has cruised his way to the double World Superbike win at Miller Motorsport Park, controlling race two from the front as he walked away from Xerox Ducati's Michel Fabrizio.

Spies led from the exit of turn one, never looking back and only Fabrizio could get anywhere near the American's pace but as the Italian got to within one-and-a-half seconds with ten laps to go, Spies put the hammer down and extended his lead back to three seconds in two laps.

The fight for third place went right down to the last lap as Ten Kate Honda's Jonathan Rea managed to fend off a late-charging Leon Haslam until the Derbyshire man lost the front of his Stiggy Honda just a handful of corners from the chequered flag.

Rea takes his second podium of the season with Aprilia's Max Biaggi in fourth and Ryuichi Kiyonari one place behind on the sister Ten Kate Fireblade.

Series leader Noriyuki Haga has seen his lead slashed after only managing to finish in eighth. The effects of his huge crash in practice have obviously had a bigger effect than he let on.

Spies' team-mate Tom Sykes finished in ninth after qualifying at the back of the grid and Shane Byrne made his way back up to 10th after initially dicing with Haslam but making a mistake and dropping right back down the order.

Tommy Hill did not start either race after breaking his foot in practice yesterday. Carlos Checa crashed out at the Attitiude set of corners and Lucs Scassa was punted off by Jamie Hacking, who took to the grass twice in the second race.
