Carlos Checa 1'48.908
Ryuichi Kiyonari 1'49.243
Sterilgarda Yamaha's Ben Spies has broken countryman Doug Polen's pole posiion record at Miller today, setting his seventh pole position in a row this evening.
Spies was the only rider who still had a qualifying tyre left for the final session and was more than half a second faster than last year's double winner Carlos Checa.
Rain was spitting on parts of the track for most of the third session which seemed to hamper Michel Fabrizio who round out the front row. Jakub Smrz heads the second row with Sterilgarda Ducati's Shane Byrne in sixth, Broc Parkes in seventh and Jamie Hacking in eighth.
Superpole two
Ben Spies 1'48.319
Michel Fabrizio 1'48.594
Ryuichi Kiyonari 1'48.659
Byrne was the only British rider to survive the second knockout session as rain threatened to bring it to a premature end. Byrne was on his second qualifier to put in a 1'49.510.
Championship leader Noriyuki Haga was knocked out, as was Aprilia's Max Biaggi who crashed early in the session and managed to get back to the pits but to no avail.
Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea were caught out as the rain couldn't decide whether it not it was going to fall plus debris from Biaggi's crash got in the way of a number of riders.
