MILLER WSB: SPIES WALKS AWAY WITH TWO-PART RACE ONE

Sterilgarda Yamaha' Ben Spies cruised to the World Superbike race one win at Miller Motorsport Park this afternoon in a two-part race that was red-flagged after Celani Suzuki's Karl Muggeridge crashed on lap seven.

Likeable Aussie Muggas eventually walked away from the incident which happend at the appropriately-named Attitude pair of corners, he was left laying in the middle of the track which meant the race had to be stopped.

Spies had been running almost a second a lap faster than the rest of the field and managed to pull out a huge advantage before the race was stopped and the grid re-formed in their finishing positions.

At the re-start, Spies was beaten into the first corner by Ten Kate Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari but by the time they came out of the third turn, Spies was in front and that was the last anyone saw of him.

Because the race was run on aggregate time, Spies crossed the line almost 10 seconds ahead of Ten Kate Honda's Carlos Checa with Xerox Ducati's Michel Fabrizio taking the final podium spot. Kiyonari, who drifted off the pace towards the end of the second leg, just missed out on a podium.
