GRT Yamaha's Garett Gerloff finished the Misano WorldSBJK test only a tenth down on former MotoGP star Alvaro Bautista after two days on track.
Gerloff, who has been heralded as a potential world champion by compatriot Ben Spies, set a 1'33.686 on his work-supported R1 and feels confident about the next test at Barcelona.
"It was looking lime we were going to be fastest until about 30 minutes to go but it was a really good test and we made a lot of improvements, " said the Texan, speaking at Misano.
"In the afternoon today, we did a coupe of things that improved thge way the bike felt and my consistency, so I am super-happy.
"There is still little bit to find, maybe a tenth or two a lap would be nice but it's all positive and we are making improvements every time we get on the bike."
