MISANO WSB: REA TAKES DEBUT RACE WIN

Ten Kate Honda's Jonathan Rea has won his first-ever World Superbike race in the second leg at Misano this afternoon, snatching victory from the Xerox Ducati pairing of Michel Fabrizio and Noriyuki Haga on the last lap following a race-long battle.
As the lights went green it was Noriyuka Haga of Ducati Xerox team who took the lead going into the first ahead of Rea and Michel Fabrizio also of Ducati Xerox team.  Race one winner Ben Spies of Yamaha WSB was in sixth behind Jakub Smrz of Guondalini Racing and Shane Byrne of Sterilgarda Ducati, who kept that fifth position till the end having his best result of the season.

It was on the first lap that Spies produced the shock of the race with putting his hand up as if to retire with problems before continuing to race rejoining down in 17th.  Showing why he is one of the main championship contenders he worked his way back up the grid to finish sixth overall.

It was all eyes on Haga, Rea and Fabrizio at the front with Haga and Rea doing most of the fairing to fairing battles with Haga leading until lap three when Rea went to the front for most of the race, not backing down from any challenge.

It was obvious that Fabrizio was watching and waiting and on lap 16 when Fabrizio made his first move to the front with a breathtaking inside manoeuvre on the entry to the chicane.  Rea didnít learn from this as Haga made repeated the undertake a lap later temporarily putting Rea in third.

It wasnít long before Rea revenged a place back to continue his battle with Fabrizio.  Fabrizio held the lead and even though side by side he battled with Rea swapping places, each time he won the battle.  It was on the start of the last lap that Rea took the final ludge to the front to win the war taking the race win.

It was quite a lonely ride for Carlos Checa of Hannspree Ten Kate Honda in fifth and Bryne in sixth.  It was also a solid ride for the Tom Sykes of Yamaha WSB who finished eighth who finished ahead of Leon Haslam of Stiggy Racing Honda with them both finishing in the top ten.  Smrz who on lap one was in fifth made successful damage limitation after he make a mistake early on in the race pusing him down the order putting him at of the battle for the win and giving himself more work to do.
