Yakhnich’s Jules Cluzel left it till the chequered flag came out to set the quickest time in the second World Supersport free practice session at Misano this afternoon.
The Frenchman’s best lap of 1’39.651 was a tenth faster then Pata Honda’s Michael Van Der Mark who was unable to replicate his morning’s performance and head the timesheets.
In the beginning Mahi Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu was the first rider to better his time from the first session – a 1’40.108 with 29 minutes left on the clock and that was enough to leave him top, with Cluzel also going quicker than his time from the morning, but it was only enough to place him second.
The Turkish triple champ continued to improve and was the first rider to lap in the 1’39’s with five minutes remaining, to cement his status as the quickest rider on the track. But his reign at the top was not to last as Cluzel, Van Der Mark and Core PTR Honda’s Ratthapark Wilairot all went quicker, as Sofuoglu resided in the pits.
In the end Cluzel took the spoils followed by the young Dutch Pata Honda racer. Pata Honda’s Lorenzo Zanetti and former MCE British Superbike contender PJ Jacobsen finished in fifth and sixth respectively.
In the dying seconds of the second free practice Kennedy was languishing outside the top ten, but managed to pull together a 1’40.414 to go eighth. DMC Panavto-Yamaha’s Kev Coghlan was unable to improve on his lap time set from the morning session, and slipped down to 13th on the timesheets.
