BMW's Leon Haslam remains at the top of the World Superbike timesheets at Monza this morning after only a handful of riders managed to better their times in second qualifying, one of those being team-mate Troy Corser who leapt from sixth to third fastest.
The wily veteran cut his laptime to 1'43.039 to be a tenth behind Haslam, sandwiching Max Biaggi, while PBM Kawasaki's Joan Lascorz also vaulted up the sheets, bagging fourth place with a 1'43.180 as the BMW Italia of Ayrton Badovini upped his pace but lost places, dropping to fifth.
Factory Yamaha's Eugene Laverty is bumped to sixth while team-mate Marco Melandri did go faster but remains in seventh place, three-tenths off the pace. Castrol Honda's Jonathan Rea drops to eighth and Noriyuki Haga, who lobbed his Pata Aprilia early on, improved his time bit still fell to ninth place.
Leon Camier had pinched tenth place but was demoted by Carlos Checa's final lap. The Spaniard is struggling for top speed but Tom Sykes' PBM Kawasaki isn't. However, he finds himself in 12th place despite going four-tenths faster than yesterday.
BMW Italia's James Toseland made it through to Superpole but is likely not to take part as he isn't willing to take risks with his bust wrist. Chris Vermuelen, who crashed yesterday, did not take part in the second session after having stitches in his elbow.
