Alstare Suzuki's Max Neukirchner has kept his place at the top of the World Superbike qualifying timesheets at Monza this morning and will be last man on track in this afternoon's Superpole.
The German put in a lap of 1'45.506 halfway through the session to keep the rest of the field at bay. Regis Laconi is in a somewhat surprising second place with Yukio Kagayama third and Noriyuki Haga rounding out the front row.
Ten Kate Honda's Ryuichi Kiyonari, who maintained third for the first half of the session, is in fifth followed by Fonso Nieto. Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss is in, for him, a disappointing eighth right behind countryman Troy Corser.
Max Biaggi continues to struggle with the Sterilgarda 1098 and is the penultimate Superpole qualifier as Kenan Sofuoglu, whose time yesterday was good enough for 14th, has flown home to be with his family.
Sofuoglu's brother Sinan has been killed while racing in his native Turkey.
