Alstare Suzuki's Max Neukirchner has snatched provisional pole position away from team-mate Yukio Kagayama and Xerox Ducati's Troy Bayliss on the very last lap of qualifying this afternoon at Monza.
The Japanese rider had topped the timesheets with a 1'46.371 lap until Bayliss went two tenths quicker with five minutes to go. Neukirchner left it until the session's death to dip under 1'46s with a 1'45.990.
Yamaha's Nori Haga and Troy Corser are having a torrid time finishing 12th and 15th respectively, with Max Biaggi languishing in 17th. Former British Superbike Champion Gregorio Lavilla is running well in 10th, just a second off the pace.
Makoto Tamada and Jakob Smrz rounded out the top five with Karl Muggeridge in sixth. Reigning World Supersport Champion Kenan Sofuoglu, who has struggled for pace all season, finished eighth with Ruben Xaus ninth. Seventh place went to Michel Fabrizio who set was fastest through the speed trap at 201mph.
