Aprilia's Eugene Laverty has topped the second World Superbike qualifying timesheets at Monza this morning in a drying session which saw no-one improve on their times front yesterday so positions from qualifying one stand going into Superpole.
The conditions did, however, give the field a chance to work on a good wet setup and to see how the track fares underdrying conditions as laptimes tumbled down from the 2'04 bracket early on down to Laverty's best of 1'45.476, three second slower than his time from the first session. The Toomebridge man still clocked 206mph...
Kawasaki's Tom Sykes was only fractionally slower than the Irishman on a 1'43.632 with Max Biaggi another 0.024s further back in third. Jonathan Rea took fourth with Ayrton Badovini in fifth place and half a second off the pace.
BMW's Leon Haslam was sixth and he has Jakub Smrz and Chaz Davies for company while the Derbyshire man's team-mate Marco Melandri was ninth. Lorenzo Zanetti rounds out the top ten with Leon Camier in 15th and John Hopkins 20th.
