PTR Honda's Sam Lowes has taken provisional World Supersport pole position at Monza this afternoon with his final lap, knocking two-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu from the top of the pile with tiny South African Sheridan Morais in third.
The former BSS champion led for most of the first timed session but was demoted by Morais and then Turkish rider Sofuoglu with only a few minutes left to run while he was in the pits. The Lincolnshire man then went back out and flew into first place with just over four-tenth off a second in hand on a 1'47.601.
Sofouglu is on a 1'48.038 with Morais a further four-tenths in arrears. Fabien Foret climbed off the tarmac to take the final space on the provisional front row with Stefano Cricuani in fifth. Roberto Tamburini is sixth, Broc Parkes seventh and Matthew Scholtz in eighth. Massimo Roccoli and Jules Cluzel rounded out the top ten.
