Rain could put an end to today's World Superbike action at Monza as a majority of riders have refused to race on Pirellis wet weather tyres because they have proved to have only a life of three laps before breaking up under the pressures of the track's high-speed.
A rider's meeting at the track this morning saw a general consensus that if the conditions require full wets, then it could be a very small grid (a few Kawasakis). Both Eugene Laverty and Leon Haslam suffered from badly chunked tyres in Superpole while Hiro Aoyama's tailpiece had holes smashed in it as the rubber came away from the carcass in morning warm-up (see video below).
Pirelli are currently hand-cutting SC0 slicks but there is only one available per rider.
