Kawasaki's Tom Sykes has retained his third place in yesterday's second Superbike race after his team successfully appealed against a protest put in by Aprilia that briefly placed Sylvain Guintoli on the podium.
Aprilia believed that Sykes broke the rules when he ran off track while in second place on the last lap of race two and came back on in front of Guintoli, causing the French rider to slow down.
Other riders had been penalised over the weekend for re-joining the track either in an unsafe manner or for gaining a place or time advantage. Guintoli was then given third place, demoting Sykes to fourth
Kawasaki appealed the protest decision which the FIM stewards upheld, giving Sykes back third place.
