Factory Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow has taken the World Supersport win by more than two seconds at Monza this afternoon as Eugene Laverty was denied a podium spot after a wild pass by Kawasaki's Joan Lascorz.
Laverty had been involved in a dice with Crutchlow and Fabien Foret for most of the race until Lascorz managed to get onto the back of the top three and went into the first chicane too hot with two laps to go, blocking the Irishman and not only allowing Crutchlow to make a break but dropping the Parkalgar Honda back into fourth.
Laverty got the holeshot from fourth and was immediately in a battle with Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu but by lap two, Crutchlow shoved the Turkish rider out of the way and set off after the Irishman, catching and passing him on lap two.
The pair swapped places for lap after lap until Crutchlow's team-mate joined the party, dropping reigning world champion Andrew Pitt in the process and generally getting in the way.
It was then a three-way dice for the lead until Laverty managed to pull a small gap, but the Yamahas were soon back on his rear wheel. The scrap continued with the three exchanging places until Crutchlow hit the front once more and pulled a small gap.
As the lead Yamaha went away, Foret tried to pass Laverty at almost every corner but the young Irisman signalled to the French former champion to sit behind him and let him tow the pair of them back up to Crutchlow.
Foret duly ignored this and continued to slow both of them until Lascorz caught the pair of them with a handful of laps to run. Then Lascorz tried his move into the first turn and ended any hope of catching the former HM Plant Honda BSB man.
