Bogdanka Honda's James Ellison fell foul of a faulty quickshifter and then two riders crashing in front of him at the Monza World Supersport round which demoted him to 17th from eighth on the final lap.
The Kendal man, who looked to have called it a day halfway through the race after being shunted across the pavement at Variante Della Roggia but picked up the pace and began to carve his way back through the field.
"My bike started cutting out at full throttle so I turned all the electronics off but then the rear would lock up on the brakes as it had no electronic aid. I tried pressing all the switches on the dash to see if I could fix it but it was still there the whole race. Then at the end of the race to lose a good finish through no fault of my own is less than ideal," said Ellison.
