Chaz Davies' Parkingo Aprilia crew chief Alberto Colombo has admitted they made an error gambling with a race tyre in the first part of today's World Superbike Superpole which left the Welshman with a mountain to climb in Russia tomorrow.
The reigning World Supersport Champion was left with a fifth-row start slot in both races but Colombo is confident that Davies' race pace will see him able to make his way through the field.
"Is obvious that we have done a mistake choosing not to use the qualifying tyre on Superpole one. This weekend we have reached the best set up so far on the Aprilia RSV4. I guess we were too optimistic and thought we could risk a bit more to get a better position on the grid that we believed we deserved," he said.
"Anyway, we are happy to have done it, as we would have been always with the doubt. As for the race pace, we are 100% satisfied. We have done a race simulation and we are quite happy with the results."
