Nurburgring WSBK: ‘I never like to win a race like that’ – Lowes

Yakhnich Yamaha’s Sam Lowes stormed to another World Supersport victory, but has admitted that he wanted to have more of a ‘battle’ out on track with reigning champ Kenan Sofuoglu.

The Turkish rider crashed on lap ten while in second, just behind Lowes, this gave the Derby lad the opportunity to push ahead, and in the end had a seven second lead over Fabien Foret. The 22-year-old was confident that he would have kept up his race pace to clinch the win, but wanted to be challenged by Sofuoglu all the way to the finishing line.

“Obviously I never like to win a race like that, and I didn’t want to see him crash as Kenan was pushing hard, as I like battling with him,” said Lowes, speaking at the circuit.

“Racing is racing and if I stuck to the pace I knew it would be hard for him, and I thought I could break him and I did a bit and he made a mistake. It has been a great weekend, we have had some problems but I am really happy, and hopefully I can carry this on for the next few races.”
