Nurburgring WSBK: Maiden Supersport podium ‘great’ for Coghlan

DMC-Lorenzini rider Kev Coghlan is one happy rider today after coming away with his first World Supersport podium, as he finished the race at the Nurburgring today in third place.

The Scottish lad did not have the best of starts and had to push his way through the grid before he was in contention for a top five finish. In the end the only rider standing between him and a podium was Pata Honda’s Lorenzo Zanetti. But the Italian made a mistake and the 25-year-old overtook Zanetti on turn 1 with three laps to go, and in doing so secured his maiden rostrum.

“I really messed up the start and I knew it was going to be a long race, and then I managed to find some pace and then in the end we were battling for the podium. Then Zanetti made a mistake and I took advantage of that and pushed on,” said Coghlan, speaking at the circuit.

“But it is great to get my first podium. The team have been really supportive of me even when I crashed in the past and told me to keep pushing on and the results will come.”
