Oulton BSB: 'It’s been a long time since my last BSB win' – O'Halloran

Jason O’Halloran was understandably delighted to have taken his first win of the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season and with pole position and the fastest lap of the race, it completed the gentleman’s set for the McAMS Yamaha rider.

With no less than five third place finishes to his name already this season, including three at the last round at Silverstone, the Australian was keen to take the top step this weekend and had signalled his intentions from the very beginning at Oulton, topping Friday’s free practice session.

He brought that form with him to Saturday and after taking a last gasp pole position, he was able to run in the top three for the entire 16-lap race.

Having briefly grabbed the lead on lap four, he re-took Christian Iddon on the 14th lap and set the fastest lap of the race on the 16th and final lap to take just his second BSB win, his only one before coming at Snetterton in 2016.

“It’s been a long time since my last win in BSB, that’s for sure,” O’Halloran said afterwards. “We’ve been close a number of times this year and I’ve always been in the front group so to finally get the win means a lot.

“I’ve had five podiums so far this year and I had the speed to win at Silverstone only to lose out in each race so I just tried to stay in the front group today so I was always in the mix. As soon as anyone came by me, I took them straight back as I didn’t want anyone to get away.”

The win has seen O’Halloran move up to second in the Championship standings with Glenn Irwin’s lead now down to 30 points.
