After two visits to the podium, Danilo Petrucci was disappointed he could not claim a third podium in Race Two.
Danilo Petrucci had his best weekend of the season as he stood on the podium twice in the three World Superbike races. The Italian rider missed the Dutch round earlier this season after suffering major injuries in a training accident.
The 33-year-old has had three visits to the podium since his return from injury. Because of his performances, Petrucci is now fighting for fifth in the WorldSBK Championship. After getting podiums in Race One and the Superpole Race he was disappointed with a fifth in Race Two.
"I scored my best result in a Superpole Race, Petrucci said after Race Two. "Then in Race Two, I made a good start, I was first at the first corner. After the first lap I was fighting with my bike because of the strong winds, I have always struggled with strong winds because of my big body and my setup. I was quite good at the beginning with the others but in the last sector and on the straight I was really slow."
After the race, Petrucci was thankful to his team for giving him such a great bike. However, he could not hold back his disappointment of missing out on a hat-trick of podiums.
"I should be happy with fifth place, but I am not," Petrucci said whilst smiling! "After two podiums and a front-row start, I was looking for another podium. I wanted a little bit more but I want to say thanks to my team because they are doing incredible work. The bike is so good, we are looking at Magny-Cours a track that I like, but we will see. We are quite close to fifth position in the Championship, we got some good points this weekend and I am looking forward to the next."
